From Pink Ribbon of the Month – July 2010
This month, we are proud to honor Jason Lichterman, co-owner of J.M. Lichterman & Co. with our “Pink Ribbon of the Month.” An energetic, successful young businessman, Jason is taking his entrepreneurial spirit to a whole new realm–using his art and expertise in jewelry to help the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate truly “sparkle” in the breast cancer movement.
In his devoted breast cancer activism, Jason exemplifies living the Komen promise to the utmost degree, demonstrating outstanding ingenuity, initiative, resourcefulness and love for his community. His clear passion for the Komen vision of a world without breast cancer, as well as outstanding ability to embrace all generations in the breast cancer movement, is an inspiration for us all.
Jason’s involvement with the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is inspired by his mother-in-law, who is a breast cancer survivor. His crusade is in celebration of her fight and on behalf of all women–past, present and to come.
“I am very fortunate that in this tough economy, J.M. Lichterman & Co. is doing well, and I know for many this is not the case–especially families who are falling victim to downsizing or benefits being cut in today’s companies,” said Jason. “My activism with Susan G. Komen for the Cure is simply my way of giving back to those in need and, in the longer term, contributing to the greater good by helping bring to reality the vision of a world without breast cancer.”
Last winter, Jason came to the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate with his own vision… a campaign called “Pearls for Passion.” The concept was simple: what could be better than accessorizing your look with exquisite, hand-crafted Tahitian pearl necklaces and bracelets? The answer: doing so while also empowering the reality of a world without breast cancer.
For a full year, starting March 15, 2010 and ending March 15, 2011, Jason and J.M. Lichterman & Co., will donate 20% of each designated Tahitian pearl necklace and bracelet purchased to the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate. So far, in less than four months, the campaign has raised $2,500.

In addition to “Pearls for Passion,” Jason and J.M. Lichterman & Co. have donated Tahitian pearl and pink-pearl necklaces and bracelets to help with fundraising for the CBS 3 Call for the Cure, the 2010 Komen Philadelphia Pink Tie Ball®, Teens for the Cure’s Tickled Pink!® and other initiatives. In addition, he is working on another very meaningful add-a-pearl anniversary necklace for breast cancer survivors, the sale of which will also benefit the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate.
“From the moment I met Jason, I knew ‘Pearls for Passion’ was going to be just the tip of the iceberg–for you could see in his eyes that he was… well… passionate about making a true difference in raising both funds and awareness for our mission,” said Elaine I. Grobman, Executive Director of the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate. “He frequently asks how he can do more–and every time I make a suggestion, he embraces it, enhances it and makes it a success.”
The Komen Philadelphia Affiliate is proud to name Jason Lichterman our July Pink Ribbon of the Month recipient, and we thank him–on behalf of millions of women–for the beauty of his jewelry… which is only outshined by the beauty of his heart.
