Pink Ribbon of the Month, July: Jason Lichterman

Posted: July 1st, 2010

From Pink Ribbon of the Month – July 2010

This month, we are proud to honor Jason Lichterman, co-owner of J.M. Lichterman & Co. with our “Pink Ribbon of the Month.” An energetic, successful young businessman, Jason is taking his entrepreneurial spirit to a whole new realm–using his art and expertise in jewelry to help the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate truly “sparkle” in the breast cancer movement.

In his devoted breast cancer activism, Jason exemplifies living the Komen promise to the utmost degree, demonstrating outstanding ingenuity, initiative, resourcefulness and love for his community. His clear passion for the Komen vision of a world without breast cancer, as well as outstanding ability to embrace all generations in the breast cancer movement, is an inspiration for us all.

Jason’s involvement with the Philadelphia Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is inspired by his mother-in-law, who is a breast cancer survivor. His crusade is in celebration of her fight and on behalf of all women–past, present and to come.

“I am very fortunate that in this tough economy, J.M. Lichterman & Co. is doing well, and I know for many this is not the case–especially families who are falling victim to downsizing or benefits being cut in today’s companies,” said Jason. “My activism with Susan G. Komen for the Cure is simply my way of giving back to those in need and, in the longer term, contributing to the greater good by helping bring to reality the vision of a world without breast cancer.”

Last winter, Jason came to the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate with his own vision… a campaign called “Pearls for Passion.” The concept was simple: what could be better than accessorizing your look with exquisite, hand-crafted Tahitian pearl necklaces and bracelets? The answer: doing so while also empowering the reality of a world without breast cancer.

For a full year, starting March 15, 2010 and ending March 15, 2011, Jason and J.M. Lichterman & Co., will donate 20% of each designated Tahitian pearl necklace and bracelet purchased to the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate. So far, in less than four months, the campaign has raised $2,500.

In addition to “Pearls for Passion,” Jason and J.M. Lichterman & Co. have donated Tahitian pearl and pink-pearl necklaces and bracelets to help with fundraising for the CBS 3 Call for the Cure, the 2010 Komen Philadelphia Pink Tie Ball®, Teens for the Cure’s Tickled Pink!® and other initiatives. In addition, he is working on another very meaningful add-a-pearl anniversary necklace for breast cancer survivors, the sale of which will also benefit the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate.

“From the moment I met Jason, I knew ‘Pearls for Passion’ was going to be just the tip of the iceberg–for you could see in his eyes that he was… well… passionate about making a true difference in raising both funds and awareness for our mission,” said Elaine I. Grobman, Executive Director of the Komen Philadelphia Affiliate. “He frequently asks how he can do more–and every time I make a suggestion, he embraces it, enhances it and makes it a success.”

The Komen Philadelphia Affiliate is proud to name Jason Lichterman our July Pink Ribbon of the Month recipient, and we thank him–on behalf of millions of women–for the beauty of his jewelry… which is only outshined by the beauty of his heart.

Pearls for Passion campaign at JM Lichterman & Co. a chance to give back

Posted: April 15th, 2010

From Examiner.com

Jason Lichterman, renowned jeweler along with his father, has been in the jewelry business for a total of more than 60 years combined. Just less than a year ago, they came up with a brilliant plan for a new boutique/jewelry store/design house for the city of Philadelphia. “We felt Jewelers’ Row and Philadelphia were missing something that offered customers one-on-one attention at fair and reasonable price points,” says Lichterman. JM Lichterman & Co., located at 802 Sansom Street, Suite 3B, is nestled atop a building overlooking historic Jewelers’ Row, and is one of the city’s best kept secrets. This design studio is where Lichterman and his father and partner custom-make the majority of their high-end pieces, consisting of fashion and diamond selections and some of the most affordable, beautiful, and unique treasures. “We are able to create anything and everything – including exact replicas of nearly all designer pieces – at a fraction of the cost,” says Lichterman.

A brand new campaign for 2010, Pearls for Passion began as “a very near and dear to our hearts” cause, as Lichterman’s mother-in-law is a breast cancer survivor. So he and his father began creating exquisite handmade Tahitian pearl necklaces and bracelets, which were both rare and unique to this region. “We started getting a tremendous response from our customers in regard to the Tahitian collection and I wanted to be able to ‘give back’ in some way with the great success my father and I were achieving,” says Lichterman. For each Tahitian necklace and bracelet sale made – JM Lichterman donates 20% to the Susan G. Komen For the Cure – Philadelphia Affiliate. This will be an ongoing effort and initiative for 2010 as JM Lichterman & Co. has become official partners.

The Tahitian pearls used in the Pearls for Passion collection are available in several gorgeous shades of smoky gray, charcoal, peacock yellow, white, and chocolate. They can be strung on a black, chocolate, natural, or red leather cord. These styles have an island resort look and are most popular. The Pearls for Passion pieces start at $175 and can range up to $1,300, depending on the number of pearls strung on a piece. These Tahitian pearl necklaces and bracelets are the perfect spring and summer “it” pieces as they are light and can be worn dressed up or casually and are perfect for a day at the beach.

When shopping for pearls, Lichterman provides some astute tips. “Study the luster of the pearl to ensure it is not dull, make sure there are no blemishes on the pearl, the surface should be smooth and when buying a strand of pearls you want to be sure all of the pearls match and are of the same quality,” according to Lichterman.

Pearls for Passion will be ongoing for the remainder of 2010 and beyond. Be sure to stop by JM Lichterman & Co. to view the entire Pearls for Passion collection; you’ll surely make a difference.
